FOLK fans are being urged to snap up tickets for a concert at the Lion Salt Works Museum which looks set to be a sell-out.

Top UK folk duo Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin bring their evocative songwriting and vocals to the museum on Wednesday, May 24 as part of their ‘Out of the Ordinary’ tour.

The duo won the Best Duo BBC Folk Award in 2014, and were nominees in 2016.

Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin’s highly-acclaimed music is rooted in the idea of the modern folk tale.

Their music draws heavily on personal experience, memory and intense human experiences to create songs of lament and tunes of hope, often with an unpredictable twist.

The duo, who play a variety of instruments including the fiddle, banjo, harmonica, dubro and lap steel fuse, will play a selection of music from their three albums, as well as newly-written work.

Hannah said: “Folk songs are often rooted in a strong sense of place and certainly this is true of many of our songs.

“Out of this line of thought came the idea of a tour that would take music to magical places.

“All the places we have chosen – from caverns to Iron Age sites have their own magic.

“With our evocative songs we want to bond and engage with our audience at these special sites to create something really inspiring and energising.”

“Nowadays, we play all round the world, but Phillip, who is originally from Chorley in Lancashire is particularly looking forward to playing in the North-West to his home crowd.

“This will make playing at the Lion Salt Works Museum particularly special for us.”

Councillor Louise Gittins said: “I am delighted that the museum has attracted one of the UK’s top folk duos and believe that in searching for special sites with a ‘sense of place’ they could have chosen no better than the Lion Salt Works.

“Salt is a defining feature of Cheshire – its history, people, landscape and industry.

“This is why the site has the status of an Ancient Scheduled Monument, with the same listing and protection as Stonehenge and Hadrian’s Wall.”
