HARTFORD rolled back the years as the town held this year’s Victorian Christmas Fare.

The annual event took place in St John’s Church and Chester Road on Saturday.

A number of Chester Road businesses also supported this year’s event, with Chime and Relish, among others, providing hot food for visitors to enjoy.

This year saw 34 stalls take part, providing a wide range of wares.

Nathan Phillingham, the youth and families minister for St John's Church, Hartford, said feedback has been positive.

“It was very popular,” he said. “People seemed to really enjoyed it. They thought it was well organised, and they seemed to have a great time.

“It went very smoothly.”

Visitors were treated to some live entertainment from several singing groups, including the Hartford Manor Choir and the Bostock Singers.

A number of organisations attended, such as the RNLI and Cheshire Police.

Nathan said: “The police proved to be a bit of a hit with the kids. I kept hearing the siren going off, but it was just them in the car park.”

Children enjoyed a range of activities, including table tennis and table football. All the activities were free but people were asked to make a donation.

So far, £1200 has been raised and will be donated to charity, though this figure is not yet complete.

Nathan thanked the community for supporting the event.

He said: “We’re at the heart of the community, like the schools, the business and the parish council.

“What we’re trying to do is asking how we can come together as a village. It’s great to see people come out to support that.”
