VISITORS to The Lion Salt Works Museum will take a trip back in time this month as part of their Dickensian Christmas weekend.

Steam engines, morris dancers and a choir will be part of the noisy and warm welcome on December 10 to 11, from 10.30pm and 4pm.

The festive weekend will feature a number of activities, most of which are free of charge.

Father Christmas will be on-hand in his Winter Wonderland Grotto in the museum’s Butterfly Garden. Children just need to follow the fairy lights and bring any letters they want to share with him.

A number of other activities are planned across the weekend, including crafts and festive storytelling with ‘Professor Josiah Mace’, who will also be showing his ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’.

Several historic steam engines will be on display, courtesy of Clive Hearsey and other Cheshire steam enthusiasts. Children will be able to ride free of charge on some of the miniature engines.

There will also be carol singing, a live choir and morris dancers over the two days.

Cllr Louise Gittins, cabinet member for communities and wellbeing at Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “Last year’s Dickensian Christmas was magical and this year’s will be even bigger and better than before.

“This is a wonderful line-up of activities and almost all of it will be available free.

“I hope that everyone takes the opportunity of coming along to this wonderfully atmospheric site and joining in the festive spirit.”
