LOSTOCK Gralam residents are being invited to switch-on celebrations on Friday.

Festive lights are set to twinkle over December from the village’s first Christmas tree for many years.

The light are to be lit on a 20-foot Norway spruce standing at the traffic lights at the junction of Station Road and Hall Road.

Children from Lostock Gralam Primary School will be singing carols from 5.15pm to 5.30pm, followed by the switching-on of the lights.

The school choir will be singing four or four carols to get everyone in the festive spirit, and the lights are to be turned on by Joyce Kenrick from Marston.

Joyce is a Reader at St John’s Church in Lostock Gralam, which has supported the switch-on event with a donation from money raised by its celebrations to mark The Queen’s 90th birthday.

Following the switch-on people are invited to enjoy mulled wine, mince pies and tea and coffee at St John’s Church Hall.

Children will be able to have a go at decorating gingerbread.

The Christmas tree and the switch-on have been organised by Lostock Gralam Parish Council.

“This is the first time Lostock Gralam has had a Christmas tree for many years,” said parish council clerk Lyndsey Sandison.

“The switch-on will be an evening for everyone, not just the children, and is aimed at bringing the community together.”
