PROPOSED double yellow lines at Gadbrook Park could exacerbate parking problems for residents living near the business park.

So says Rudheath Parish Council, which is concerned about the impact of plans to introduce ‘no waiting at any time’ restrictions on some roads at the business estate.

The possible parking ban could affect 200 cars, and the parish council has expressed concerns about what it says is the shortage of parking on the business park and its impact on neighbouring residential roads.

People living near Gadbrook Park are becoming increasingly frustrated by the number of business park workers who leave their cars outside their homes.

Residents say cars are left on their roads all day, making it difficult for them to get out of their drives, workers double-park and park near or on junctions.

The parish council’s concerns over the parking problems have increased in the wake of a move by Cheshire West and Chester Council to ban parking on business park roads near the entrance.

Cheshire West Technician (Place Operations) Carl Griffiths told the parish council the request for the traffic regulation order (TRO) had been made by Cheshire West’s property services section, with the support of Gadbrook Business Improvement District.

He said: “The TRO has been requested to prevent inappropriate and dangerous parking on the unadopted roads on the business centre and to enable businesses occupying the business centre to function without disruption to delivery, service and emergency vehicles.

“The car parks of unoccupied premises are being made available to try to alleviate the problem. I would estimate that potentially 200 vehicles may be affected.”

Parish clerk Fiona Penny said in her email to Mr Griffiths: “The council has previously raised concerns about the shortage of parking on Gadbrook Business Park and its impacts on Rudheath, where parking is obstructing access to residents’ properties and resulting in dangerous parking at the junction near the primary school.

“The council has attended meetings with various parties to seek to address the impact on the residents, and the proposed additional parking restrictions appear to be totally counter to improving the situation of residents in Rudheath outside the business park.”

In addition to concerns over lack of business park parking residents say some employees park outside their homes to avoid queuing to leave the park at the end of the day.

Our article last week about the parking problems around the estate sparked numerous comments from residents on social media.

Nicky Hughes said – “As a resident on Wright Avenue this issue is getting worse – parking outside residents’ homes instead of on the business park so you can get home a little earlier.”

Ann Stanway said – “Fed up of them parking in Wright Avenue. Is there enough parking on Gadbrook, or is it quicker for them to park everywhere else, so when everyone comes out at the same time they’re not waiting at traffic lights?”

Zoe Birch said – “There is lots of green space on the business park, but the council need to give permission to build on it.”

Claire Rawlinson said – “The park has become a nightmare to get to in the morning and to leave in the evening. The people who work on Gadbrook Park are not happy with the situation either.”
