A BUMPER show of glorious daffodils will be on display in Whitegate this spring.

The Whitegate Daffodil Farm will hold a series of open days from March 30 to April 10 in an annual fundraising showcase for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Gail Jackson, from the farm, said: "We normally run over Easter weekend but last year all the daffodils were so late.

"This year we should be bang on track for a bumper show when it opens."

The former horticultural farm used to supply daffodils for the cut flower trade but this is no longer commercially viable.

It boasts more than 500 types of daffodil, including some rare and historic varieties.

The farm began its daffodil walks nine years ago, when it raised around £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Last year it collected around £7,000 for the charity.

Open days also include a visit to The Magic Oak Fairy Tree and refreshment marquee,

The farm is open daily from 10am to 4pm and admission is £2 for adults and £1 for children.

Farm owner Len Tomlinson will host an informative and lighthearted guided tour full of tales from the farm's 125 years of daffodil growing at 10.30am each day.

Booking is required for the tour, which costs £5 and includes admission, drink and a cake.
