FURIOUS drivers say a Northwich town centre car park needs to be marked out better after being fined for parking in the wrong place.

The issue has arisen in the car park at Northwich Memorial Court.

Kath Lewis contacted the Guardian after she was fined for parking in a space near the bus bays during an aqua aerobics session.

The wording on her fine said she had parked in an area not designated for that class of vehicle.

"People have said at aqua aerobics to make sure that you've got a white line on either side," she said.

"As you drive in facing you are the spaces for the bus parking and just at the head of it are three spaces, two side-by-side and one at the side.

"I was parked in one of those and I had a white line on either side.

"If it isn't a designated parking space then they need to make it clear."

Kath has appealed the £70 fine.

Driver Mark Wilson also contacted the Guardian after he was unexpectedly fined for parking in an end slot in the central section of the car park.

"The sign clearly states you must be parked within a marked bay or space," he said.

"It doesn't say a marked bay or a marked space.

"I had a white line on one side and the curb on the other with a 3ft gap at the top where the angle of the curb comes in.

"It will quite easily accommodate a vehicle.

"I appealed the fine but that appeal was rejected – but it's not clear where you can and cannot park because it's not hatched."
