A MAN was taken to hospital after a car crashed into the side of a house in a Northwich village on Father's Day.

The car collided with an end terrace property in Acton Bridge shortly after midnight on Sunday morning.

One man was trapped in the car and was cut free by firefighters before being taken to hospital by ambulance.

Two fire engines were called to the incident, which happened in Station Road at 12.16am on Sunday, June 21.

Acton Bridge resident Cllr Charles Fifield, Cheshire West and Chester councillor for Weaver and Cuddington, said he was perplexed by the incident.

"I don't quite know what's happened here, it does seem odd," he said.

"My immediate thought is how the car managed to be at that angle, it seems a very peculiar place."

Cllr Fifield said the area was not an accident blackspot and that the speed limit through the village was 30mph.

He said: "There was a speed limit put on the B5153 on the gaps between Weaverham and Acton Bridge, between Acton Bridge and Crowton and between Crowton and Kingsley – it was originally 60mph and has been dropped to 40mph.

"But when you come into the village further down Station Road it's 30mph – this has always been a 30mph zone.

"There are concerns about speed but it's more that people are more concerned about the volume of traffic, made worse by the various road works."

The incident happened near the junction of Station Road and Hill Top Road.

Cllr Fifield added: "We need to find out more as to the circumstances of the crash because it's a very unusual position for that to happen there."
