A THREE peaks challenge awaits a Northwich mum this summer just four months after finishing treatment for breast cancer.

Codilia Gapare will climb Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis in 24 hours on August 29 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, which has been a lifeline for her since she was diagnosed last July.

The 37-year-old, from Navigation Road, has been treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy and had her last radiotherapy session on Thursday, April 9.

"It's been going on for a long time – I've forgotten what it feels like to be normal," she said.

"I'm attempting to do something that, at this point in time, I don't know if I will be able to do it.

"But mentally I am strong.

"The body will follow where the mind wants."

Codilia, who has two children aged 14 and seven, is originally from Africa so does not have a huge support network on her doorstep.

"I have no family here so it's my partner and ex-husband looking after me," she said.

"Macmillan have helped, especially for me with my family being away, it's good to know you can call them any time and not particularly about health but anything you can think of.

"They just talk to you and sometimes you just want someone to talk to.

"I was looking to raised £1,500 to start with but even if I don't reach my target, whatever I can do it's worth every penny I can raise."

Codilia is also planning to start a law degree this year after winning a place at Manchester Metropolitan University just as she found out she had breast cancer.

"I deferred the place to this year but I was determined to do it because it's something I've wanted to do for a long time," she said.

"I've just wanted to do something bigger than cancer just so I don't focus on it all the time because it would have just floored me.

"You do appreciate life more and you tend to do things you want to do."
