MUMS are being invited to join Donna Burston and her son in a buggy push for a charity close to her heart.

Donna’s son Thomas, who will be two this month, spent 10 weeks in intensive care at Leighton Hospital after being born 12 weeks early.

Donna organised a buggy push last spring for Bliss, a charity which supports families and their babies who are born sick or premature.

Six people took part, raising £500 in the process, and Donna is holding a second buggy push/sponsored walk for the charity on Sunday, April 19.

The five-kilometre fundraiser starts and ends at the Greenbank Hub at Greenbank, and there will be a raffle at the centre at the end of the event in aid of a twin incubator at the neonatal intensive care unit at Leighton Hospital.

“My son Thomas was born 12 weeks early due to me having preeclampsia, and weighed only two pounds three ounces,” said Donna, 29, a sports science lecturer at Mid-Cheshire College.

“The Leighton NICU staff were amazing in the 10 weeks Thomas spent in there, not just with him but also with me and my husband, and Bliss were there when we thought that we were the only ones in the world going through this.

“It makes you realise how common it is for a family to experience difficulties with their child’s first few months, and that there is a massive network of support there to be accessed.

“Leighton Hospital NICU is currently raising money for a twin incubator to make parents lives much easier if they have two babies in there.”

The buggy push will start at 10.30am, and will involve footpaths, with tea and biscuits being served at the Hub at the end.

Donna thanked the Greenbank Hub for allowing the event to be held there, and anyone who would like to support the event can visit the facebook page Bliss Buggy Push Greenbank Northwich, as well as justgiving.com/teams/greenbank2015, or email Donna on dlaburston@gmail.com for a sponsorship form.

Bliss’ work caring for babies and their families is almost entirely funded through voluntary donations.
