A NORTHWICH MP has hailed a report that recommended electrifying the railway line between Chester and Manchester.

Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans, who has been campaigning for this improvement on the Mid Cheshire Line, said he was delighted by the news, but added he would 'keep on working to make sure that these improvements are delivered and soon.'

The report from the North of England Electrification Taskforce recommended electrifying the Chester to Manchester line, which includes Delamere, Cuddington, Greenbank, Northwich, Lostock Gralam and Plumley.

Electrification, it is claimed, will help to cut journey times, increase services, and cut noise pollution and emissions.

Mr Evans said: "I couldn't be happier that all our hard work has paid off and the taskforce has recommended upgrading local railway lines as a top priority.

"Investment in infrastructure and better transport links are a key part of my plan for Weaver Vale. And we all know how essential good, modern and regular rail links are in achieving that goal.

"Getting this far hasn't been easy. We've had to work hard to make our case - and I've had to bang on some ministerial doors. My job isn't over yet: I'll keep on working to make sure that these improvements are delivered and soon."
