Local Businesses Meet The Buyer
More than 100 local businesses came together last week to discover how to get involved with Northwich’s £80m Barons Quay development.
Hosted by Balfour Beatty, the Meet the Buyer event attracted a wide range of building contractors from across Mid Cheshire, all keen to see which packages of work they can bid for now that construction work is underway on the site.
Mike Burrows, Balfour Beatty’s senior project manager said; “We couldn’t be happier with the turn out and were delighted to see just how enthusiastic local businesses are to get involved with shaping Baron’s Quay.
“On a project of this scale it’s vital that we use local skills and keep as much of the work in Northwich and Winsford as we can. We want to see local electricians, builders, heating engineers and more, all making Barons Quay a reality.
“Not all the packages of work have been released yet but we will keep those that registered their interest up to date as they become available.”
Work at Barons Quay is running to schedule. The site has been cleared and services have been redirected ready for piling to begin in March.
Barons Quay will include an Odeon cinema, Asda superstore, petrol station, seven restaurants, more than 30 retail units, free parking, a hotel and cafes and will open in the summer of 2016.

Barons Quay: Creating Jobs, Changing Lives
Local people are being given new job opportunities thanks to links between Barons Quay contractor, Balfour Beatty and social enterprise, Fusion 21.
Five new jobs have been awarded to local people so far, including an on-site labourer, a site-office cleaner and three site traffic marshalls, with many more expected during the programme of work on site.
Danielle McGivern is Fusion 21’s Community Regeneration Support Officer she said: “Our focus is on creating training opportunities and sustainable jobs for local people and we’re working closely with Balfour Beatty to help them achieve that with Barons Quay. Five jobs have been created so far and we’re only a few weeks into the programme of work. It’s a very encouraging start.”
Steve Dodd, 36, moved to Northwich last year after his relationship broke down. Fusion 21 has helped him into work and he’s now a labourer on the Barons Quay site.
Steve said: “I’ll be honest, things were pretty bleak when I first moved here. I had nowhere to live; no job and my relationship had just come to an end. Fusion 21 has really helped me to turn things round - I’ve got a place to live, a job and a sense of purpose again. I’m working with great people, learning lots on site and loving being so closely involved in what’s happening here in Northwich, my new home.”
Anyone interested in the new jobs on site at Barons Quay should contact Danielle at Fusion 21 on 07713 477472.

Facebook Says Visit Northwich
‘Visit Northwich’ - that’s the message the Northwich Business Improvement District is championing via social media.
A ‘Visit Northwich’ Facebook page has been set up to celebrate all the positive things happening in the town and to reiterate it’s ‘business as usual’ while the Barons Quay development is underway.
Jane Hough from Groundwork Cheshire said: “We’ve created the page to really capture all the great things already going on here in Northwich and to give people lots of reasons to visit.
“We’ll be sharing special offers from our retailers, reminding people about community events and sharing Barons Quay updates too. It’s a great way to really celebrate Northwich’s life and regeneration and we hope to get as many likes as possible over the next few weeks.”
Like Visit Northwich on Facebook before 28th February and you’ll be entered in a prize draw to win a bottle of champagne.

Paving and Planting at Memorial Court
With only two months until the opening of Memorial Court, Northwich’s new art, cultural and leisure centre, work will now start on the public areas surrounding the building.
Block-paving and planting will be completed around the building’s perimeter and will take place over the next ten weeks. The hoardings will be moved to the pavement.
