WITH communication between the public and police becoming less common, two PCSOs are looking to use social media to bridge the gap again with the Middlewich community.

Middlewich PCSOs David Jinks and Jill Cope are now approaching 1,000 followers on twitter after introducing their own ‘hash tag’ of #CopeyandJinksy.

And the duo say their less formal approach is an ideal way to bring back the bond between the town’s police force and the residents.

David said: “We lost that communication between the police and the public and this is a really good idea to get that back again and tell the public what we’re doing.

“We’ve been quite shocked with the amount of followers we’ve got. We’ve got around 1,000 followers now.

“We’ve now got kids following is on twitter because they like the hash tag and even One Direction follow us.

“I think it’s a good idea because any information that the public can help us with can just be put on there and it gets shared around.”

The pair cover both Middlewich and Holmes Chapel in their job as PCSO’s with David being mainly in Middlewich.

They have used their new found presence on social media to good effect by appealing for witnesses to various crimes as well as keeping the community up to date with key issues in the town.

Jill said: “I think the main message we need to tell people is that nothing is too much trouble, just come and talk to us.

“PCSO’s are the friendly face of the police, we want to be the people you approach.

“We are more approachable now and people are much more looking to approach us.”
