TALENTED musician Charles Macdonald played live on one of the nation’s top radio shows.

Charles, from Tarporley, performed on the Chris Evans show on BBC Radio 2 with country-influenced band The Shires.

Charles is studying at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and has worked with artists and musicians such as Millie Pye, also Mid Cheshire College alumni, Dennis Rollins, LAX Starboy and Sophie Morgan.

Also on the popular breakfast show with The Shires and Charles were actors Ross Kemp and Caroline Quentin and musician and music producer Mark Ronson.

Charles is a former Tarporley High School and Mid Cheshire College student, and has played at other radio events with the likes of Guy Garvey, the lead singer of Elbow, leading musical star Michael Ball and BBC Radio One presenter Greg James.

Charles, who juggles his studies with being a session guitarist and providing one to one guitar tuition, said: “The Chris Evans show was a great show to be on.

“Also this year I'll be supporting Little Big Town with The Shires at venues including the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London, and touring through April.”

Charles has played guitar since the age of 10, and has always shown a passion for music.

Pete Robinson, who used to be his tutor, said: “Charles studied on our level three music practice course which gave him the grades to get into the Royal Northern College of Music.

“Since then he has gone on to be really successful. He worked really hard at college, and so it’s great to see him doing so well now.”

Charles plays guitar, and has also toured with The Shires and featured on their EP which reached number one on the iTunes country charts.

He is studying a BA honours in popular music performance at the Royal Northern College of Music, and gained a triple distinction* mark from Mid Cheshire College.
