NEW cadets have been welcomed to a 75-year-old squadron by the High Sheriff of Cheshire.

A group of 25 cadets were welcomed to 146 Northwich Squadron, Royal Air Force Cadets, with an enrolment ceremony.

They were joined by Susan Sellers who, as High Sheriff, is appointed by the Queen to represent Cheshire in matters relating to law and order.

Pilot Officer Martin Moores said: "We hold two in-takes every year, in March and September, and this is the ceremony where the new cadets make solemn declarations to do their duty to the Queen and the Air Training Corps.

“We are very proud of our traditions, especially this year, when the squadron has celebrated its 75th anniversary.

"This is a great chance for families to come along and meet the staff and see their cadets take a new step.

"Making new friends and learning new skills, is what the air cadets is all about.”

146 Squadron Air Cadets is based in Darwin Street and parades every Tuesday and Friday between 7pm and 9.30pm.

Boys and girls, aged 13 years and six months, who are interested in joining are invited to attend an introduction evening at 7.30pm on Tuesday, March 3.
