TALENTED young singer Georgia Williams is to perform alongside some of the biggest names in the music business as part of a new girl band.

The 15-year-old was chosen by the public as one of four members of The Piccadillys following a competition by Manchester radio station Key 103.

Band members will have singing and dance lessons and will record a single.

The girls will perform at Christmas lights switch-ons and on the main stage at the Key 103 Christmas Live show at the Phones 4U Arena in Manchester.

George is a student at The Grange Senior School, and won a place in the final 10 of the Girlband competition after taking part in singing and dance auditions.

Three members of the group were chosen by public vote, which ended on Monday, and the final member was chosen by a judging panel.

Georgia, from Stockton Heath, and her mum Kate, travelled to the Key 103 studios the following morning to be told who had been selected for the band.

Kate said: “I was really nervous, and when Georgia was chosen I was ecstatic, and she came out of the studio and gave me a big hug.

“Georgia and I still can’t believe it, and she has had cards and best wishes from people, who have all said they knew with her voice she was going to be a rock star one day.

“It has always been her dream to be in a band, and I think she has an amazing voice.”

Georgia and her fellow band members were taken by Key 103 for a celebration meal in Manchester, and are to travel to London to record a single.

The Christmas Live show is at the Phones 4U Arena on December 4, and Kate and her family, including husband Stephen and daughter Charley, have booked tickets near the front.

“It’s going to be an amazing night, and I can’t wait,” said Kate.

“We will be waving Georgia on and giving her the thumbs-up.”

Kate produced posters and stickers to publicise Georgia’s appeal for support in the public vote, and Charley, 10, asked fellow pupils at Grappenhall Heys Primary School to vote for her sister.

Kate said Georgia wanted to thank everyone who had voted for her, and you can see the moment Georgia was told she had won a place in the band on the Key 103 website.

“Georgia has taken part in numerous singing competitions since she was 10, including Warrington’s Got Talent and Britain Does Variety,” said Kate.

“She has also sung at pre-match and half-time at Warrington Wolves, and has worked really hard for her success in the Key 103 competition.”
