PROCESSION organiser Vicki Jones had a grin as wide as the Cheshire Cat on Saturday at a memorable Davenham Village Carnival.
Vicki dressed as the famous feline character from Alice Wonderland to lead the procession in the community celebration, whose theme was The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.
Vicki was delighted by the support for the carnival.
She said: “I have never seen so many people at the carnival – the support was absolutely outstanding. People were still on the field at 5.30pm, and the children didn’t want to go home.”
The procession started at Lloyds florists, and ended at Butchers Stile Field, where Megan Keeling was crowned as the Davenham Carnival Queen by Clr Brian Cooke.
The carnival was opened by Clr Dee Cooke, and the afternoon featured a packed programme of events and entertainment, including a clown, acoustic singer, magician, Punch and Judy show, donkey rides, a hog roast, treasure hunt and raffle and local stalls.
A collection was taken for a Down’s Syndrome charity during the procession, which included visiting queens, Brio Bear from the leisure centre and local groups.
