URBAN children enjoyed adventures in the countryside thanks to a project to celebrate the great outdoors.

Pupils from schools across Northwich have been enjoying facilities at Petty Pool Outdoor Centre, in Sandiway, as part of the Urban Kids Go Outdoors scheme.

The project has been developed by The Petty Pool Trust, with visits funded so far by Northwich developer CB Homes and the Rotary Club of Northwich Vale Royal.

It gives children chance to enjoy a number of activities, including a climbing wall, crate stack challenge, animal farm and nature walk, while devleoping their team building skills.

Rudheath Primary School is one of the schools that has taken part.

Headteacher Elaine Wright said: “The children absolutely loved it and it was a great day enjoyed by all.

“The children haven't stopped talking about it.”

Lee Burke, from the Petty Pool Trust, said: “Urban Kids Go Outdoors provides children with a unique opportunity to re-connect with nature and enjoy the thrill of outdoor pursuit activities.

“A huge thank you has to go to CB homes and Vale Royal Rotary Club for funding such a wonderful day for the children of Rudheath Primary School, we hope this inspires children to explore wild-life and nature in their local area, for example Vickersway Park and Delamere Forest.”

Colin Booth, from CB Homes, said “This is a very exciting new concept and approach for our organisation.

“We are now supporting a local school in the community to provide local children with a wider and better understanding of the environment they live in.”
