A MUM and son from Cuddington are the proud owners of a pointless trophy after their TV debut.

Jenny Whitcombe and 20-year-old Joe won the trophy after reaching the final of BBC One quiz show ‘Pointless’, hosted by Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman.

“They’re a good couple of blokes, there’s good banter between them,” she said.

“They’re really nice with you, listen to what you say and were teasing my son Joe about his hair and what a student he is.

“I was excited about going on the show because I’ve watched it so many times that I know what to expect, but I was nervous for Joe because I’d persuaded him to do it.

“He loved it because he got a pointless answer in the first round and at the end Alex and Richard concluded he was a cool student.”

‘Pointless’ has a large part to play in the family household, prompted by its ability to bring the family together and help with making the tea.

Jenny said: “It’s always been a favourite show for the family.

“Our youngest son Ben used to watch it on BBC Two when he got in from school.

“I was going to enter with him but you have to be over 18 so I did it with Joe, the oldest, which fit in with him going to university.

“After he left Sir John Deane’s College it was ‘let’s do a fun thing together before going to uni’.

“The show also fits really nicely with getting the family tea together – you put the potatoes on between round one and two and the veg between two and three.”

Jenny said watching so much of the show, which challenges contestants to find obscure, but correct, answers that earn no points, also helped her plan family tactics with Joe.

They were also filmed back in December, coincidentally on Jenny’s birthday.
