MARATHON man Dan Morear is hoping to become a record-breaker by taking on a novel challenge in a world-famous event.

The 35-year-old financial manager is seeking to set a world record for the fastest completed marathon carrying a full set of golf clubs.

Dan lives in Comberbach, and is the captain of Antrobus Golf Club.

He is to make his bid for Guinness World Record recognition in the London Marathon on April 13, where his wife Fiona will be cheering him across the finishing line.

Dan is undertaking the challenge to raise money for the charity Asthma UK, having suffered from the condition all his life.

He is raising funds through sponsorship, and has reached £2,500, breaking his target of £2,000.

“My challenge is one which has never been attempted before,” said Mr Morear.

“I’ve been training carrying the set of golf clubs on my back, and have had some funny looks from cyclists when I’ve been out running in Northwich on Sunday mornings.

“I’m hoping to go as fast as I can, but the awkward thing will be to keep the golf clubs steady and maintain a controlled running rhythm.

“The bag and the 13 clubs weigh 10 kilos, everyone thinks I’m mad to attempt this challenge, and my aim is to enjoy the day and go with the flow.

“I’ve suffered from asthma all my life, and wanted to raise awareness that asthma need not stop people from living life to the full and taking part in sport.”

This will be Dan’s second marathon after completing the Liverpool Marathon in 2012, and he hopes to cross the finishing line in the capital in five hours.
