  • "If everything has a packet and a wrapper, and a bag ,and a napkin then I'm afraid that there inevitably going to be lots of rubbish blowing in the wind. Those responsible are not the children who drop the litter, they are in fact the victims. Those responsible adorn the litter with corporate logos advertising that it is they who are responsible for the litter and the sham food contained inside, they market plastic cloaked excuses for food to a trusting population who feed it to themselves and their offspring....Litter will stop when fruit becomes fashionable.Until then lets charge companies a penalty for all identifiable packaging either that or we can stick with blaming children for a grown up problem. x"

SHOPPERS can do more to keep the town centre tidy and help enhance Northwich’s image, according to one disgruntled resident.

Debbie Trickett spotted this litter gathering next to the Barnardo’s shop near Matalan and Sainsbury’s on Saturday.

“Whilst out in Northwich town centre on Saturday, I was appalled to see the amount of rubbish on the piece of land next to the Barnardo’s shop,” she said. “The volume of rubbish was such that it prompted me to take a photo.

“I know we have seen gale force winds recently which have contributed to the problem, but I think everyone will agree the mess is terrible and so disheartening, especially when a real effort is being made elsewhere to improve Northwich's image with building works and developments.”
