A SWIMMING pool in Northwich has won funding to help amateur swimmers who want to improve.

Sir John Deane’s College Leisure Centre has started to run two new Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) sessions a week aimed at people wanting to follow a structured plan to improve their swimming.

The centre was assisted by ASA to secure funding from the Sportivate fund, part of Places People Play – Sport England’s London 2012 mass participation legacy programme.

Lesley McLaughlin, manager of SJD Leisure Centre, said: “We’re really grateful for this funding which means swimmers who want a more focussed session will be able to follow a set plan and get more out of it.

“Workout cards will be available for people to choose at what level they want to work at and they will also be able to ask advice from a poolside instructor if they wish.

“A lot of our swimmers who use the centre are training for events such as the Iron Man and these sessions are ideal for the triathlon competitions.”

The Swimfit sessions run on Wednesdays from 8.30pm to 9.30pm and Sundays from 7pm to 8pm but general lane swimming will still be available during these sessions.

Anyone wishing to attend the new Swimfit sessions must pre-book.
