PENSIONERS are being helped to get out of poverty with a new campaign.

Age UK Cheshire is launching a campaign called Let’s Talk Money, which aims to reduce pensioner poverty in the county by increasing the number of people aged over 65 claiming the attendance allowance benenfit.

This is a non means tested benefit to help people with a long term illness or disability and those who are eligible could claim either £53 or £79.15 a week to help with personal care.

Statistics from the Department of Work and Pensions shows that there is currently a lower than expected number of people in Cheshire claiming the allowance.

During the next three months, Age UK Cheshire will be hosting several Let’s Talk Money surgeries and attending a number of events where a dedicated team of advisors will encourage older people to find out what benefits they are eligible for and claim what they are entitled to.

Age UK Cheshire’s advisors will be able to help complete the forms and answer any queries.

Details of the events are yet to be confirmed.
