A LOSTOCK railway bridge is still the same as height despite recently installed signs stating a reduction in three inches.
David Massey of Manchester Road-based Narrowboats Ltd, contacted the Guardian last week after signs installed on the Network Rail-owned bridge on Griffiths Road, Lostock Gralam gave the height as 11ft 6ins rather than the original 11ft 9ins.
Mr Massey feared a reduction in height would cause problems not only for the company’s equipment passing under the bridge but also for the safety of other motorists.
However, a spokesman for Cheshire West and Chester Council told the Guardian the bridge is still the same height as before.
The spokesman said: “The new bridge, which is owned by Network Rail, is at a very similar level to the previous bridge.
“The small difference in height as stated on the new sign is a result of updated and more accurate measurements.
“It takes into account the curvature in the road and includes a safety margin in accordance with current standards.”
