A NEW road safety scheme has been introduced in the hope of combating a cluster of collisions in Whitegate and reducing drivers’ speeds.
Two flashing warning signs and a 20mph advisory speed limit have been put in place on Dalefords Lane, to help address a number of collisions in the vicinity of the Cinder Hill junction.
The scheme was part-funded by Over and Verdin Clr Lynda Jones from her member budget, Whitegate and Marton Parish Council, Whitegate Pre-School Nursery and the Recreation Room.
Clr Jones said: “A recent speed survey shows that the scheme is working, with a reduction in the number of drivers exceeding the speed limit.
“It will be evaluated over the coming months and it is hoped that recorded collisions will reduce.
“This is a great example of locality working because this particular stretch of road had caused concern for some time.
“I am pleased that a partnership involving some of my member budget, and funding from Whitegate and Marton Parish Council and Whitegate Pre-School Nursery has ensured a positive outcome.”
Whitegate and Marton Parish Clr David Roston added: “The parish council, the Pre- School Nursery and the Recreation Room have been working for many years to improve traffic safety at the Beeches.
“They have all made contributions to the capital required for this project.
“The scheme has been operational for a short period of time, and already appears to be having a positive impact in improving safety of Recreation Room users and time will tell if the number of accidents in the Beeches area reduces".
