A FLOWERY folk festival aims to take Little Leigh by storm in September.

The village will be a hub of music, floral décor, canine capers and heritage during the weekend of September 6 and 7, with the main event on Saturday, September 7.

Val McDermott, from Friends of St Michael and All Angels Church, said: “We’re trying to do something a bit quirky really and it should be good fun.

“If it takes off we will go forward with it – Glastonbury had to start somewhere.

“We’ll accept donations if people enjoy themselves but it’s all free entertainment because people haven’t got that much money at the moment.”

St Michael and All Angels Church, in Church Road, will be decorated with flowers and open to visitors from 7pm on Friday, September 6, when refreshments will also be served.

The church will also be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, September 7, with singing at 2.30pm.

The folk festival itself will start at lunchtime on Saturday with six acts entertaining throughout the afternoon and evening.

The fun dog show will also take place on Saturday afternoon.

Food will be available during the event, which has been organised by Friends of St Michael and All Angels Church and Little Leigh Village Hall Committee, and a bar will open at noon.

The open events at the church will also give visitors chance to see its spectacular terracotta reredos, which was made by Northwich brickmaker Jabez Thompson and depicts The Last Supper.

Val said: “People say it’s a little gem and it’s worth a look.”
