CRIME fighting sisters have teamed up to increase safety and peace of mind for pub-goers across Northwich and Winsford.

PCSOs Kat Stock and Barbara Billington have launched a partnership between the towns’ respective Pubwatch schemes.

By pooling the resources available to landlords in each area, they have come up with an improved method for fighting crime and ensuring pub patrons can enjoy their drinks in peace.

“What we’ve found is that someone on Pubwatch in Winsford might go out drinking in the neighbouring town and visa versa,” explained Barbara.

“In the past, someone who might have been barred from pubs in Northwich might have gone out in Winsford.

“Everybody wants to go out and feel safe and comfortable, and we want to keep Northwich and Winsford safe places for people to out for a drink.”

Landlords across Northwich, Winsford and outlying villages can now access more information via the scheme.

National police statistics show a significant drop in the number of violent offences in pubs where PubWatch is operating.

Pubwatch schemes also deter troublemakers, reduce attacks on staff and customers, improve the information police have to act upon and improve the working relationship between police and licensees.

For £20 a year publicans can access an online resource of banned troublemakers, as well as a range of crime fighting advice and police contacts.

Pubwatch members can also meet once a month to discuss any issues that may be affecting other landlords.

“It’s nice for them to be able to get together and chat and is open to anyone with a pub within the vicinity of either town,” added Barbara.

“There might be someone who has caused a problem in the pub, who can then be easily identified to other members.”

Northwich pubs meet on the first Wednesday of the month at The Quayside at 10am.

Winsford pubs meet on the first Thursday of the month, with the next meeting at The Ark Inn at 10am.
