A GROUP of Crewe guides took part in a time trial adventure game that traversed the German capital during an unforgettable European adventure.

Six girls joined colleagues from Congleton and Bollington Cross, before flying into Berlin’s Schönefield airport on Wednesday, July 24.

After exploring the city for a few days, they met another 334 Girlguiding members from across the north west for an event called Adventures in Berlin.

Members met on the central Washington Platz, before taking part in The Checkpoint Challenge game.

Then, in the style of an undercover mission, participants had to follow a series of clues and questions during a time trial tour of sites including the Reichstag and Brandenburg Gate.

Each correct answer gained a stamp to allow groups to board a fictional flight at a former air base in Tempelhof Park.

Sue Taylor, one of the trip leaders, said: “International trips are so valuable, as our girls and young women gain life skills during these exciting experiences.

“We always see a development in their confidence and independence and the girls get a very real sense that they are part of a worldwide family.”

Guides raised money for their adventure by helping out with bag packing and setting up a market stall at the FABFEST Cheshire music festival in June.

Sue added: “The fundraising was a lot of hard work but the girls had fun doing it.

“At FABFEST, we sold sweets, drinks and tasty Quesadillas.

“We also did lots of face-painting and hundreds of glitter tattoos, which were very popular with the Brownies and Guides.”

Girlguiding North West England organises an international event known as ‘Adventures in…’ every two years.
