MORE than 100 people took part in The Crown Estate’s consultation on initial plans for the regeneration of a derelict industrial site in Delamere.

Residents were able to view plans for the former Marley Tile Works, off Station Road, at a public exhibition earlier this month.

The Crown Estate has looked at a number of alternative uses for the derelict brownfield land opposite Delamere station – which has been left unoccupied since 2006 – and considers a scheme delivering new market and affordable homes as the best option.

The initial plans include new roundabout access as well as measures to enhance pedestrian safety and calm traffic around the station.

There will also be a contribution to local services and transport.

Feedback from the consultation suggests the most important issue is ensuring that local facilities and infrastructure such as roads, schools and medical facilities can cope with the development.

Respecting the landscape setting and minimising the impact on the green belt was also one of the key issues highlighted.

According to The Crown Estate, more than 80 per cent of residents who provided feedback on the plans supported the regeneration of a brownfield site.

Steve Melligan, strategic land manager for The Crown Estate, said: “We are grateful to the 100 plus residents who attended our public exhibition or who viewed the proposals online via the consultation website.

“The input of the local community allows us to refine and shape our plans and the feedback received at this initial consultation and will be vital in enabling us to produce the best possible scheme for the local community.”

A further consultation event is planned for early Autumn, with a formal consultation due to start once a planning application has been submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council.
