A SHOP in Barnton has been given a new lease of life that reflects the work it does in the village and overseas.

The Christian Community Ministries (CCM) shop opened in Runcorn Road more than 15 years ago with the aim of raising money for projects that help children into education and give them chance to break out of the poverty cycle.

The shop has now been refurbished and renamed Restore, to reflect its work restoring lives.

Dawn Appleton, charity support manager, said: “It was ready for a fresh coat of paint but we also wanted to take the opportunity to give the shop a name that reflected the work of the charity more.

“The Christian Community Ministries Charity Shop was a little long winded to say the least!

“Restore was chosen as it shares the focus of the charity – restoring lives, giving people a hope for the future.”

She added: “The staff are the same, the service will be the same, the chance of a bargain will be the same and the funds support the same projects, we just gave it a brighter look and a great new name.”

CCM’s Save Our Soles appeal for unwanted footwear has already helped hundreds of children into education in India.

The programme will be extended to Romania where the charity is opening the country’s first primary school for autistic children in October.

CCM hopes to raise £10,000 to complete the seven classrooms and two bathrooms.

The shoe appeal is directly funded through the donations and sales of this shop.

Dawn said: “In 2012, CCM sent £59,500 overseas to the projects we support and in excess of £25,000 worth of goods and donations.

“The charity shop contributed to over half of the funds sent overseas.”
