Car parking update
I’ve been working with the council to find a solution to long-stay car parking in Winsford Town Centre following the closure of the Dene Drive car park by the landowner.

I understand how important long-stay car parking is to town centre staff, many of whom are key workers, and alternative long-stay car parking will be available in the weeks ahead.

The landowner has brought forward the next phase of their plans and the new Aldi, if approved at planning, is a vital part of the town’s expansion and regeneration.

This meant the car park had to be closed at short notice, meaning alternative long-stay car parking could not be prepared in advance. The inconvenience experienced since the closure is far from ideal and I want to reassure residents that it will be resolved.

All developments, including the proposed Aldi store, will result in some disruption and the council have to manage this disruption after 10 years of Government austerity have left the council workforce depleted. I am grateful to our council workforce, who are key workers themselves, for their continued commitment and ambition to regenerate Winsford.

There is a cross-party meeting of Winsford councillors next week where alternative car parking in Winsford Town Centre will be discussed.

It’s been disappointing to see confected opposition from councillors, much of which talks down our town and undermines the regeneration of Winsford.

We should be working constructively in the interests of Winsford residents and businesses, which is what I will continue to do.
