IN the article regarding La Belle Époque and council tax (Guardian, January 9), the local councillors queue up to blame the tax rise on the issues surrounding La Belle Époque.
Cllr Stewart Gardiner said ‘the situation is no fault of the council’ and ‘in the future the asset at 60 King Street will again ensure an income for the council, which will be to the benefit of the people we serve’.
This is quite vague. I assume that this means that the council tax will never be reduced by the amount that it will increase, but will remain or continue to increase. But any income will be used elsewhere.
