COULD I express my surprise that the new homes bonus awards, which it was thought the council were about to request bids for, have been deferred for a year.

Many local organisations, especially those who missed out last year were hoping to submit a bid and had been asking for information on when details would be available to submit a bid.

The announcement at the recent Corporate Scrutiny Committee that the Labour-led authority was deferring the new homes bonus bids for a year shocked the members present at the meeting.

So far Cheshire East has received more than £54 million in new homes bonus which was intended to help with improvements in infrastructure in areas where the additional 36,000 houses were being built. Most of the new homes bonus has been used to prop up the revenue account in recent years.
