I have just watched on North West Tonight the case of a lorry driver illegally dumping tons of rubbish on the car park of a special needs school.
What sentence does the majesty of the law hand out?
Twelve months, which probably means about six months after remission.
I would have thought a better sentence would be to give him a wheelbarrow, and make him transfer the whole lot to a proper rubbish dump, on foot, without the use of a vehicle.
That would teach him an unforgettable lesson, and save the country money in keeping him in prison.
Let the punishment fit the crime.
The problem is that judges have little or no imagination.
That would send a message to all illegal dumpers — you are not going to get a few months at Her Majesty's pleasure, all found.
