WITH reference to Joe Godden’s letter regarding people sitting in stationary cars with engines running, I too have approached cars ‘idling’ around a local school with varying degrees of response.
Some cars are parking up to 45 minutes before the end of school and sitting with their engines running.
The headteacher recommended that I contact the local council, which I have done twice.
The council officer informed me that it is an offence and liable to a fixed penalty charge.
I also contacted the local police and received a response from a PCSO.
Maybe if the law was enforced then word would get round that leaving engines running is neither neighbourly nor environmentallyfriendly and bad for everyone’s health.
In a town that is positioned near motorways, airport and railway we should all be conscious of the pollution we are exposed to. Surely we all benefit from cleaner air.
