COUNCILLOR Sam Naylor chastises Osbourne and Evans for not doing anything during their term in office regarding Winnington swing bridge which is fair comment.
What he fails to mention is that it was John Prescott and his Labour Government who gave planning permission to the developers of the so-called Winnington Village when Labour were in power.
I recall at the time a traffic survey (paid for by the developers) stated that there would be ‘no significant effect to traffic flow’ if the 1,500 houses were built without any additional crossing.
Anyone with a brain cell knew there would be but the houses are now almost complete after a delay caused by the financial crisis.
Now there is some scheme to bypass Barnton which I’m sure people will welcome as it will ease traffic through Winnington also.
