WHEN it comes to events like the Christmas Spectacular and ‘lights switch-on’ last Saturday, Northwich comes up trumps, and creates a fantastic experience.

The town looked great and there was a real buzz to the atmosphere.

Why then can’t it get its act together and work with Cheshire West and Chester Council to fill these empty spaces in Barons Quay?

I’m sure a lot of it is down to greed, with with no compromise on the exorbitant rents charged in the town.

Perhaps one solution could be to re-locate the remaining retailers in Weaver Square into some of the new units, but without increasing their current rent.

This would allow Weaver Square to be demolished, and the building of affordable flats to encourage young people into the town centre.

Maybe too, shops like Next and Peacocks could be re-located into Barons Quay, again at the same rents as they’re currently paying.

This might encourage other large retailers like Primark to take a look at Northwich.

Like so many other people, I feel so frustrated, helpless and let down at the total waste of time and money, since Barons Quay was built, with all the promises that were made to us.

It’s a fantastic development, and it looks amazing, and it’s one we were so looking forward to, but unless something happens soon, it will all start to fall into disrepair.

Perhaps an action group could be set up to gatecrash a Cheshire West and Chester Council meeting and ask them what the heck they’re playing at.
