I FOUND it very depressing to read that Cllr David Brown is pleased that Cheshire East’s roads are among the most improved in the north west.
Judging by the current state of rural roads in East Cheshire, one trembles to think what conditions prevail in other areas if indeed Cheshire East is ahead of the game.
When this subject last sparked debate in you columns (April 2016), your contributors pointed out the futility of the temporary road repairs currently carried out at considerable cost to the public purse. Potholes constantly need further attention as the elements contrive to restore them to their original unsatisfactory state or worse.
What is needed is proper road resurfacing. The Federation of Small Businesses is to be commended for pressing for improved road conditions.
Individuals can help this process by writing to their MP as the scale of the problem demands attention from central government.
The problem is borne of years of neglect and underspending and nothing much will change unless our elected representatives are called to account.
