WHILE Chancellor George Osborne gives £20 million to super rich Surrey County Council and takes away £57.3 million from Cheshire West and Chester Council, residents should consider just where the priorities of this Conservative government lie.
Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans was asked directly on the BBC Sunday politics why his government were giving out millions to super rich councils in the south and cutting millions from councils in the North.
He dodged the question saying he did not have the figures.
I think most people would be able to answer that question!
Cheshire West and Chester Council will have to make some very difficult decisions as a result of George Osborne’s assault on our council and our services but the current Labour-led council will keep its commitment to protect our most vulnerable residents and reduce inequality in the borough.
Unlike George Osborne and his fellow Conservatives, we do not believe that the poorest and most vulnerable in our borough should bear the burden of subsidising wealthy councils in the South of England.
Councillor Stephen Burns Winsford Swanlow and Dene Ward
