MAY I take this opportunity to congratulate Northwich Town Council and CWAC on the floral displays throughout the town and in the parks. The flower beds at the ‘bicycle’ roundabout have been particularly vibrant and the planters on the railings by Memorial Court are brilliant.
I hope I will be able to say the same at this time next year. Which brings me on to a particular concern.
I fear the proposed upgrading of the Chesterway junction with Station Road, New Warrington Road and Leicester Street will destroy these displays and we will be left with another featureless area similar to the Bull Ring.
This alteration is unnecessary since the existing layout copes well with traffic, both motor and pedestrian.
Peak time congestion occurs at all major junctions around the town and I see no reason why this one has been singled out for this expensive exercise.
Most pedestrian traffic occurs between Station Road and Witton Street with the crossing on Chesterway providing safety.
The money allocated to this project would be better spent on improving the junction of Manchester Road and Chesterway and the access from Manchester Road to Northwich Retail Park.
