MY sister has sent me the report of your tribute to Ron Carey.
I have many memories of him from my childhood, and in later years he always took an interest whenever we met.
He was a great friend of my father, Bill Challenger.
No need to guess why.
It was very emotional to see him at my father’s funeral along with some other ex Witton and Northwich players.
We had a long chat.
The last time I met him was in Bratt & Evans having coffee.
He gave me a big hug and asked all about me and the family.
I still have the card he sent me on my wedding day.
He was a lovely man, always smiling. I can picture him now saying to my dad, ‘who would have thought it, Bill?’ They would be joking about it, but with pride.
Your tribute was well deserved.
