WITTON Albion and 1874 Northwich both returned from the north east on Saturday having been knocked out of the FA Trophy.
Ben Harrison felt there was no shortage of effort from his Witton players but felt they never really got going in a 2-0 defeat at Morpeth Town, who compete at the same level but in the eastern division of the Northern Premier League.
Morpeth, who knocked Witton out of the FA Cup last year, conceded second-half goals to Mitch Hancox (62mins) and Will Dowling (80).
Despite the patchy performance, Tom Hoyle missed the best chance for either side in the first half and Joe Edwards had a couple of sights of goal in a 15-minute Witton purple patch at the start of the second half.

1874 also lost 2-0, at Blyth Spartans – a side yet to win a league game in Northern Premier League East this season.
Jack Foalle scored both goals, settling the tie with his efforts in the 14th and 25th minutes.
1874 will welcome their former manager Chris Herbert’s new Vauxhall Motors side to Townfield on Monday.
Meanwhile, both Northwich Victoria and Winsford United achieved wins in the Midland League Premier Division.
Danny Guiven scored the eighth-minute 1-0 winner for Blues at AFC Wolverhampton Community, arriving in the box to slot home a cut-back pass.
The fifth win in six league outings leaves Winsford three points clear at the top of the table ahead of Monday’s trip to Stockport Georgians.

Northwich Victoria’s 5-3 home win against Abbey Hulton United had everything.
They came back from behind twice but stole the points in an amazing late goal flurry, including two from Elliott Rokka that made all the difference.
Vics didn’t score in the opening 60 minutes but they certainly made up for it, with four of their substitutes now on the field.
Abbey went 2-0 ahead inside 22 minutes, Kal Boyle and Tim Grice hitting the target.
It stayed that way until the 61st minute when Joe Duckworth converted a penalty.
And five minutes later new signing Luc Ferry levelled matters.
Abbey went straight back down the other end and replied instantly through Kingsley Adu-Gyanifi to leave the hosts 3-2 behind.
But Lee Duckworth’s men astonishingly scored three times in the last five minutes of regular time at the Apec Taxis Stadium in Runcorn.
Ryan Jackson netted the leveller and then Rokka struck twice in the 87th and 90th minutes to clinically put The Trickies ahead for the first time and inflict a first competitive defeat on Abbey since March.
Vics’ first home league win of the season moved them up to eighth ahead of hosting West Didsbury & Chorlton on Monday.

It was raining goals at Townfield as well, where Barnton conquered Wednesfield Community 4-0.
The Villagers made it five games unbeaten thanks to two goals from Thomas Stanton and another first-half score from Toby Humphries, while Kian Mattison wrapped up matters in the 70th minute.
Barnton are 10th in North West Counties Football League First Division South as a result.
