CHRIS Herbert has spoken of his pride for his 1874 Northwich players in the wake of winning Saturday’s Midland Football League Premier Division play-off final.
The 1-0 success against Northwich Victoria at the Apec Taxis Stadium sealed promotion to Northern Premier League Division One for his side.
“It was always going to be a tough game,” said Herbert, who has been in charge since April, 2024.
“I’m proud of the lads, they’ve been brilliant.
“I think in the second half of the season we’ve been brilliant to be honest and I think we deserve it.
“We had to set up properly and be disciplined with what we did on Saturday and it worked for us in the end. We got our rewards from it.
“We had a few niggles in the team as well, it was touch and go for some.
“But the lads dug in, they did their job.”

It was the second successive season in which the Greens reached the play-off final.
“Everyone needs the off-season now. It’s been a hard season and we’ve had two seasons in a row in the final – last year not so joyful, this year they’ve deserved everything they’ve got.
“The building for next season starts now.”
1874 will celebrate their return to Step 4 at their end-of-season awards party taking place at Rudheath Social Club on Friday, May 8.
Tickets to the event and buffet are £20 and available to buy online from the club’s website.
