CHRIS Herbert said 1874 Northwich’s 4-4 home draw with Stone Old Alleynians in atrocious weather conditions on Tuesday night felt like a defeat.
His side missed the chance to put themselves six points clear inside the play-offs spots in the Midland League Premier Division.
The returning Josh Oultram netted twice, with Mark Jones and Jacson Coppack also goaling but the visitors were twice down to 10 men through sin-binnings – 1874 conceding two goals on the first occasion to squander their 4-2 lead.
“I’m disappointed. It feels like a defeat to us, with no disrespect to Stone,” said the 1874 manager.
“We were 3-1 and 4-2 up. You have to put the game to bed and we never.
“Then mistakes cost us. We’ve got to cut out the silly mistakes we’re making. Things in the box we’ve got to deal with - we’ve got to be bigger and stronger, which we have been of late.
“The pitch was bad but we can’t blame the pitch because both sides make mistakes on them pitches.
“We dominated long periods and ended up getting a draw. And to concede four goals at home is not on.
“We had chances but we’re not taking them and sides are not having to work hard enough to get goals against us. It’s too easy for them.”
Third-placed 1874 will regroup ahead of Saturday's home clash with Midland League Premier Division bottom side Uttoxeter Town.
