FOOTBALL sides from across Mid Cheshire have a lot riding on the next week of action.
Witton Albion, Northwich Victoria, 1874 Northwich and Barnton all need points.
And Winsford United have a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Vase waiting for them.
Albion could do with a win or two to prevent being dragged back into Northern Premier League West relegation concern.
They are 13th, seven points clear of the danger zone, ahead of hosting fourth-from-bottom Stafford Rangers on Saturday and then entertaining second-placed Lower Breck on Tuesday.
In the Midland League Premier Division, Vics’ lead at the summit has been clawed in by Hanley Town so they go to 11th-placed Whitchurch Alport on Saturday looking to hold on to the top spot that has been theirs for a considerable period.
Third-placed 1874 will travel to ninth-placed Brocton at the weekend aiming for a victory to not only maintain their spot in the play-offs places but to keep the heat on the top two. They are scheduled for action again on Tuesday when Stone Old Alleynians come to Town.
Barnton, sixth in North West Counties First Division South prior to tonight’s home meeting with Alsager Town, also have play-offs places in their sights going into Saturday’s home date with 14th-placed Market Drayton Town and next Wednesday’s visit to fourth-placed Telford Town.
Winsford have never gone this deep into the FA Vase before and have set a goal on making more history by reaching the last eight.
Standing in their way in the fifth round on Saturday are NWCFL Premier Division sixth-placed side West Didsbury & Chorlton.
Revenge would be sweet for Blues, who went out of the FA Cup in August at the hands of West Didsbury through a goal conceded in extra-time added time in the replay at The Step Places Stadium.
Blues will note their hosts have played a lot of football of late, six matches in 18 days leading into tonight’s scheduled home fixture with Chadderton - a seventh game in 22 days - so there may be some fatigue to take advantage of having only played four games over the same period.
Winsford are set to host Abbey Hulton United on Monday, unless an FA Vase replay is required.
