1874 Northwich registered their highest home league win of the season on Saturday.

Teenage striker Dennis Mulville scored his first goal for the club in the 5-1 success against Highgate United at Townfield in the Midland League Premier Division.

He was one of three 1874 Northwich subs to hit the mark in an eight-minute second-half spell that dashed the visitors’ hopes of completing a comeback and making it four games unbeaten for Chris Herbert’s side.

Greens went ahead in the 17th minute when Kyle Worsley regathered his composure and scored from the penalty spot after he was brought down in the box.

Tom Mitchell got a touch to a Worsley delivery but the woodwork proved to be Highgate’s saviour in the 23rd minute.

Rob Hopley, playing up front, scored his second in two games to double the lead with a tap-in 10 minutes later.

Josh Newbold netted for Highgate from a corner to cut the cushion to one goal going into the break.

The visitors, second from bottom in the table, looked the brighter side as the second-half unfolded and Jack Atkinson produced a brilliant save in the 53rd minute to keep 1874’s lead intact.

Herbert made changes, bringing on Mulville and Henry McNulty in the 61st minute, then Jack Woolley soon after.

It worked a treat.

Seventeen-year-old Mulville, on only his fifth appearance, eased nerves in the 77th minute with a smart first-time finish into the bottom-left corner.

And a minute later McNulty found some space and cracked home a shot from outside the area to make it 4-1.

Woolley completed the victory in the 85th minute when he got behind the defence to get on the end of Mulville’s flick and slickly found the top corner with his left foot.

1874, who are sixth on the ladder, will visit third-from-bottom Studley next Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Meanwhile, Witton Albion drew 0-0 away to Northern Premier League West side Trafford.

Ben Harrison’s side hit the post in the first minute and had a shot cleared off the line in the 19th minute, but it was as close as they came as Trafford kept their first clean sheet in the league this season.

It was the first time in 10 games that Witton have failed to score and their first 0-0 since the opening day of the season.

Trafford forced two finger-tip saves in the closing stages but had to settle for a sixth point earned at home this season – a third draw to go with their one win.

Witton return to action against Kidsgrove Athletic at the U Lock It Stadium next Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Northwich Victoria away to Whitchurch Alport in the Midland League Premier Division was postponed, as was Winsford United’s home clash with Prestwich Heys in the FA Vase third round.

The Barton Stadium pitch was declared fit to play after a 10.30am pitch inspection but a downpour of rain led to the referee judging part’s of Winsford’s pitch unplayable two hours later.

Vics, whose trip to Abbey Hulton United was also postponed the previous Saturday, are scheduled to return to action at home to Highgate United next Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

It will be Winsford United’s turn to attempt to play at Abbey Hulton next Saturday at 3pm, though they have a trip to AFC Wolverhampton City to focus on first on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.

Barnton’s players, management and committee members had all arrived at Wolverhampton Sporting Community before their North West Counties Football League First Division South clash was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

They will hope to see some action when The Villagers face New Mills at home next Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
