WITTON Albion led 3-1 at Newcastle Town and lost on a day when Storm Amy caused chaos in football matches across the country.
Ben Harrison’s side, playing against the wind in the second half, conceded three goals without reply as they fell 4-3 in Northern Premier League West at the GRG Stadium.
Joe Duckworth had given Albion a fourth-minute lead and although Joel Jones levelled matters, two goals in four minutes from Josh Langley and Duckworth seemingly put Witton in control.
A second goal from Joel Jones, from the penalty spot, in the 39th minute left Witton 3-2 ahead at the break.
Tom Jones equalised eight minutes into the new half before Oli Ritchie sealed the result for the hosts in the 81st minute.
Meanwhile, 1874 Northwich made it three wins on the spin with a 4-1 success at home to Studley in the Midland League Premier Division.
Remarkably, Chris Herbert’s men benefited from two own goals in the same match.
Only a minute after Mark Jones got the game started on his 300th appearance, Dale Jennings put the Greens in front.
An own goal from a Jennings cross doubled the advantage after 12 minutes and then a Studley defender found his own net from a Kyle Worsley cross in the 23rd minute.
Studley managed to score at the other end in the 38th minute but Mike Hayes’ 11th goal of the season two minutes later completed the scoring.
Meanwhile, Northwich Victoria retained top spot as they returned to winning ways at Tividale.
Vics, beaten for the first time in 12 matches at Lye Town the previous Saturday, bagged a 3-0 success.
Jefferson Abreu scored all three goals, netting in the 11th, 51st and 61st minutes.
Also in the Midland League Premier, Winsford United returned to winning ways at home to AFC Wolverhampton City.
A Connor Hooks second-half header sealed the 2-1 success, though keeper Connor Harte – returning to the club for the sidelined Jacob Kirwan – tipped a late City effort onto the crossbar.
A diving header from skipper Ste Jenyons put Blues in front but the visitors levelled late in the first half, albeit against the run of play.
Meanwhile, Ryan Jackson hit the mark twice in Barnet’s 3-0 win at Shawbury United in North West Counties League First Division South.
His strikes in the 10th and 62nd minutes sandwiched a score from George Edwards (50).
