BEN Harrison was pleased with the character his Witton Albion players showed as they returned to winning ways on Saturday.
Remi Raymond scored the winner, less than two minutes after Gee Baltazar had levelled matters at 2-2 for Mossley at the U Lock It Stadium.
Witton wasted further chances to increase their lead but the victory was only their second in Northern Premier League West this season.
“Mossley’s second equaliser came from nothing, a bit of a mistake, but it showed character to get the winner one minute later,” said Harrison.
“I’m made up with the win against a good side – experienced with quality.
“We needed the win after losing last Tuesday when we felt hard done by, by our own performance.”
Geffry Ebhote handed Witton a sixth-minute lead, wiped out by Sean Kgwakgwa for the visitors midway through the first period.
Max Harrop restored Albion’s lead in the 69th minute before Baltazar’s leveller and Raymond’s winner.
Meanwhile, 1874 Northwich also bounced back into the winning groove with a 5-1 thumping of Midland League Premier Division bottom side Uttoxeter Town away from home.
Chris Herbert’s men were dominant throughout, sparked by a first-minute goal by their new striker Dale Jennings who was making his debut after signing from Flint Mountain on Friday.
The 32-year-old former Tranmere Rovers, Barnsley and MK Dons frontman previously played under Herbert at Runcorn Town, so the pair hope the fresh link-up will continue to pay dividends.
Mike Hayes then grabbed the headlines with a hat-trick (20, 25, 75mins) before Patrick Johnrose wrapped up the scoring for a win that leaves the Greens seventh on the ladder.
Uttoxeter reduced the deficit to 3-1 before the break but never looked like completing a fightback.
Table toppers Northwich Victoria’s 11-match unbeaten run surprisingly ended in a 3-2 defeat at Lye Town.
The hosts’ third win of the season was built on their 3-0 half-time lead.
Vics pulled goals back through Sean Cooke (60mins) and Mama Djabi (65) but they were unable to find a third and fell to their first league loss of the season.
They did, however, remain top of the table by three points at the end of Saturday’s action.
Elsewhere, Winsford United drew 1-1 at Studley.
Blues dominated in parts and hit the woodwork three times but nevertheless could not get into top gear.
The goal they scored was a third of the season for Elliott Coleman in the third minute of added time at the end of the first half.
It made amends for Coleman’s effort two minutes earlier being tipped onto the bar.
Connor Hooks was twice denied by the woodwork in the second half.
Winsford remain fifth on the Northern Premier League West ladder.
Barnton bowed out of the Macron Cup at the first stage after losing 1-0 at Runcorn Town, with Connor Spiers’ 14th-minute goal proving to be the match winner.
