ALL eyes will be on the FA Cup again this weekend for three Northwich teams.
Witton Albion take on South Liverpool, Northwich Victoria face Barnoldswick, and 1874 Northwich meet Longridge Town – all away from home in the competition’s preliminary round.
It is Albion’s first tie in the competition this season, while Vics booked their place with a 3-2 home win against Squires Gate earlier this month on the same day that 1874 progressed at the expense of Stockport Town away, 2-1.
While Witton Albion were buoyed by their win against City of Liverpool in the opening game of the season on Saturday, they will be disappointed with their first away result.
Albion fell 4-0 at Kidsgrove Athletic on Tuesday night, conceding two goals in each half.
Richie Sutton netted the Athletic goals either side of half-time.
1874 Northwich fared much better, making it two wins from two in their first Midland League Premier Division campaign.
A battling performance earned them a 1-0 win at Brocton.
The winning goal came after 74 minutes from a Matty Fenton cross, with a home defender putting the ball into his own net.
Meanwhile, Winsford United and Barnton continue with North West Counties League First Division South action on Saturday.
Blues host Foley Meir and Barnton entertain Abbey Hulton United before the pair meet in a ‘derby’ at Townfield next Wednesday.
Winsford continued their strong start with a 2-0 win at Cheadle Heath Nomads on Monday.
Former Alsager Town defender Elliott Coleman put them ahead in the 48th minute and club stalwart Danny Kerr wrapped up the 2-0 win with his first goal of the season in the 85th minute.
It leaves Blues unbeaten on the road at the start of the new season, having now gone four games without defeat under new joint managers Dom Johnson and Dean Jones.
Their only loss so far came on the opening day of the new campaign at home to Alsager Town, who have won five from five under joint manager and former Winsford boss Lee Duckworth to leave them in top spot.
Barnton also won on the road on Tuesday night, a goal from Amir Hajri in the 51st minute being the winner in a 1-0 scoreline at Ashville.
