IF there had been any lingering doubt as to who was the best team in the league, it’s gone now.

Winnington Park will be promoted as South Lancs/Cheshire Division Two champions after completing a double over the runners-up – their 24th successive victory.

Their target now is to register two more to reach the season’s end with a perfect record.

Oldershaw visit Burrows Hill on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Liverpool kicked a penalty to take the lead last weekend, although their guests’ responded straightaway when James Johnson’s pass teed up Jamie Pugh to score.

Cameron Flanagan landed the first of six conversions.

Park settled, and Aaron Brown sprinted to the whitewash after he was fed by Danny Williams.

Flanagan’s attempt to dart between two defenders, and chase his own kick, resulted in a yellow card for an opponent who obstructed him.

Winnington made their numerical advantage count, and Harry Stubbs claimed their third try.

Flanagan’s kick put his side 21-3 up at the break.

A fourth try followed shortly after the interval when Stubbs burst clear of several attempts to stop him before off-loading to Pugh who added a final flourish.

Bonus-point in the bag, coach Matt Farr sent on returning Sam Brookes at centre after Ryan Williams succumbed to an injury.

Shaun Underdown’s powerful run paved the way for Brown to double his personal tally, a try converted by Flanagan, before the prop added his name to a list of scorers with a trademark surge between the posts.

The home team enjoyed their best spell during the game’s final quarter, and punished Park after they were temporarily reduced to 14 men – following a deliberate knock-on – by scoring their only try of the afternoon.

It was fitting that the soon-to-be-crowned champions had the final say, and approach play from Danny Williams and Johnson ended with Brown completing a hat-trick.

Flanagan duly added the extras.
